About the Knowledge Management Centre for Climate Change

The Knowledge Management Centre for Climate Change (KMCCC) sits under the auspices of the Academy of Sciences and works closely with the Climate Change Unit at the Ministry of Land, Environment and Rural Development (MITADER) in Maputo.

It has four core activities:
  • Raising awareness of climate change
  • Sharing information and data on climate change
  • Training on disaster management and climate change adaptation
  • Promoting scientific research on climate change, including convening and facilitating seminars

The knowledge management and technical assistance activities of the Climate Change Unit are supported by the Pilot Program for Climate Reslience (PPCR), UKAid, the Nordic Development Fund (NDF) and the World Bank Climate Change Technical Assistance Project (CCTAP).

The Knowledge Management Centre works with the Climate Change Network in 10 thematic areas:

  1. Coasts, fishing and tourism

  2. Climate modeling

  3. Communities and local knowledge

  4. Water resources

  5. Biodiversity and ecosystems

  6. Human health

  7. Food and nutrition security

  8. Agriculture, livestock and forestry

  9. Cities

  10. Economics and finance
